Taylor Swift and Disney+ Surprise Fans in Vienna with TV Premiere of Eras Tour Film Following Terror Plot Cancellations
Disney partnered with basic cable station ORF to air Swift’s concert movie in Austria on Saturday, Aug. 10
Disney has joined forces with ORF, a basic cable station, to bring a special treat to fans in Austria. On Saturday, August 10, viewers had the chance to experience Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film through a free TV premiere. This gesture came after Swift was forced to cancel her Vienna performances due to a thwarted terror plot.
The Disney+ film, “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version),” was made available for free on Austrian television, thanks to the partnership with ORF. Fans could also enjoy a limited-time, free seven-day trial of Disney+ Premium starting from August 10 to stream the movie online.
Earlier in the week, on August 7, Vienna authorities arrested two men in connection with a planned attack on Swift’s concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium, which were scheduled for August 8, 9, and 10. A third suspect was apprehended the following day, according to the Associated Press.
In a press briefing on August 8, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of Austria’s Directorate of State Security and Intelligence, revealed that one of the suspects had confessed to planning an attack using explosives and knives at the concert, with the intention of causing mass casualties.
Swift has never previously canceled a concert due to similar threats, though she has expressed fears of such attacks. In a 2019 ELLE interview, she admitted to being “completely terrified” of touring following the tragic attacks on Ariana Grande’s Manchester concert and Jason Aldean’s performance at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.
Despite the cancellation of her Vienna shows, many devoted fans gathered in the city to sing their favorite Swift songs and trade friendship bracelets, maintaining their support and enthusiasm. Social media was flooded with messages of resilience and solidarity from Swifties, showcasing their unwavering spirit.
“The Vienna Taylor Swift shows may have been canceled, but you can’t break the spirit of Swifties,” one fan shared, captioning a video of supporters singing “All Too Well.” “This is girlhood. Turning something ugly into something beautiful.”
