Jena Malone and Her Son’s Joyful Dance to Taylor Swift’s Hit Song (Exclusive)
The actress shines in the movie ‘Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1’, now available On Demand
Jena Malone, known for her diverse roles, knows how to pick a song that resonates—especially when it comes to having a dance-off with her son, Ode Mountain, whom she shares with Ethan DeLorenzo. Their latest jam? Taylor Swift’s “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
Malone shares a funny moment with PEOPLE, explaining how her 8-year-old son is now at an age where he finds cuss words amusing. “He loves cuss words now because he’s 8, and she’s like, ‘Lights, camera, bitch, smile,’” Malone reveals with a laugh. “We were blasting it in the living room, dancing our butts off.”
The actress, who currently stars in Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, shared some insights into her life with the magazine for its “One Last Thing” segment:
Last obsession: Malone has recently completed a CERT class (Community Emergency Response Team) and signed up to be a volunteer firefighter in Burbank. She’s become deeply passionate about emergency preparedness and even daydreams about organizing neighborhood drills.
Last perfect day off: Before becoming a mother, Malone’s idea of a perfect day off involved lounging in bed, ordering food all day, and binge-watching dating reality shows while playing solitaire on her phone.
Last moment of bliss: During her son’s end-of-second-grade celebration, Ode received an award and immediately sought out his mom’s gaze. That shared, unspoken connection was a moment of pure joy for Malone.
Last time I was starstruck: Malone recalls meeting Patti Smith, who contributed a song to The Hunger Games, at one of the premieres. The legendary artist’s kindness and cool demeanor left Malone a bit starstruck. “I don’t even know what to do with my hands,” she says, grateful that they captured the moment in a photo since she can hardly remember it.
